Kalla urges completion of Code of Conduct in South China Sea

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla encouraged the acceleration of the process to complete the Code of Conduct (CoC) in the South China Sea at the meeting with Cambodian Foreign Affairs Minister Prak Sokhonn here, Friday.

Sokhonn, who was accompanied by Indonesian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister AM Fachir, met Kalla to discuss the improvement of cooperation between the two countries and Southeast Asia.

"In this case, we (Indonesia) agree to support Singapore as the Chairman of the ASEAN," Fachir said at the vice president`s office.

The CoC serves as a guideline, regulating the behaviors of various stakeholders in the South China Sea.

The Indonesian and Cambodian governments agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation and relations after Sokhonn visited Indonesia on Friday.

Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi received Sokhonn at the ministry`s Pancasila Building, Jakarta.

During the bilateral meeting, the two ministers discussed and exchanged views on various issues and matters of common interest.

"In strengthening bilateral relations, we agree on the importance of utilizing a joint commission meeting on bilateral cooperation as the main forum for reviewing the progress of bilateral relations," Marsudi said.

Therefore, Indonesia will host a joint commission meeting on bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Cambodia in the second semester of 2018.

Indonesia and Cambodia agreed to strengthen the mechanisms of bilateral relations in various fields, including trade and investment, tourism, defense, agriculture, connectivity and regional cooperation.

"I am here to reaffirm our shared desire to further promote relations and close cooperation between both countries," Sokhonn stated.
