Padang, W Sumatra (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo launched the total revitalization of 1,000 Gadang houses, traditional Minangkabau houses, in South Solok District in West Sumatera Province.

"Later, the revitalization could be a prototype for Gadang house in West Sumatra Province, especially in all regions of the country," he said in his speech during the commemoration of National Press Day at Lake Cimpago, Padang, West Sumatra, Friday.

The government is expected to complete the construction of the traditional houses in 2018.

Widodo lauded the beauty of natural condition in Paringan village, Tanah Datar district in the province that has potential for tourism industry development.

He also admired the beauty of the Gadang house.

"Restoration of existing traditional houses both in South Solok and Paringan could be completed this year," said President .

Furthermore, he held a Friday prayer service at Raya Mosque of West Sumatera before making a visit to State University of Padang to maintain relationships with academics.
