Balikpapan, East Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - A man and his son were found dead on Saturday drowned in the river of Manggar, 24 kilometers north of the East Kalimantan capital city of Balikpapan.

"We first found the man, Basit, at around 11.40 minutes and one and a half hours later we found his son Abdillah, both dead," head of a search and rescue team Octavianto said.

The father and son were from the village of Manggar, East Balikpapan. Last known they were taking a group of anglers by motor boat upstream the river of Manggar.

On their way back sleepy Abdillah fell outboard, and Basit (48) stopping the boat jumped into the river. He succeeded in grabbing his son and dragged him on shore but the current was too strong for exhausted Basit. They were swept down stream before they reached a safe place, Octavianto said.

A rescue team was immediately sent to search for them . The team, however, found only dead bodies after two hours of searching.
