Bandung, W Java (ANTARA News) - West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan is scheduled to accompany President Joko Widodo, who will launch a cleanliness drive on Thursday to make the Citarum River free of pollution, the province`s spokesperson stated.

The cleanliness drive will be launched in the upstream area of the river in Situ Cisanti, which is a small lake, Tarumajaya Village, Kertasari Sub-district, Bandung District, Ruddy Gandakusumah, West Java Province`s spokesperson, noted.

Meanwhile, Head of the West Java Environment Agency Anang Sudarna remarked that the cleanliness drive to be launched by President Widodo will legally support an integrated program for normalizing the Citarum River.

As part of the cleanliness drive, President Widodo will symbolically plant a tree, a move that will be replicated by local farmers, who will plant one thousand trees along the riverbanks, he pointed out.

Sudarna emphasized that a public forum and exhibition are being organized to facilitate all related stakeholders, who are concerned about normalizing the Citarum River.

"We need a massive program to rebuild our spirit to keep the environment clean and uphold our love for rivers. A total of three thousand people comprising central, provincial, and district government officials; industrialists; community leaders; scholars; and environmentalists will be present on this occasion," he added.
