Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo is serious about reducing the economic gap in Indonesia, Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) KH Ma`ruf Amin informed journalists after a meeting with the head of state here, Wednesday.

"We discuss matters related to efforts to empower the people`s economy. Mr. President is quite serious about tackling the economic gap," he noted.

In achieving the common goals of the government and MUI, President Widodo has underlined the importance of concrete economic empowerment programs, he noted.

Amin said he and President Widodo shared common views on how the central government could encourage Islamic boarding schools and community members to partake in the people`s economic empowerment program.

"Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution and Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar also attended the meeting," he noted, adding that the locations for implementing the economic empowerment programs have been decided.

"We have already decided, but we need time to execute the programs," he added.
