Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Chief of the Public Relations Division of the Indonesian Police Inspector General Setyo Wasisto confirmed that 20 thousand personnel had been readied to secure the May Day demonstration on May 1, 2018.

"We have prepared some 20 thousand personnel for ensuring security," he noted at the Police Headquarters in Jakarta on Monday.

According to Wasisto, the figure also includes officers from the West Java Police and Banten Police that will help to secure May Day in Jakarta.

The police have ensured that on-duty personnel will not carry guns during the demonstration.

However, Wasisto could not as yet confirm the total number of workers, who will demonstrate.

He also ordered the demonstrators to conduct their demonstration in an orderly manner and to not disrupt the people`s activities.

"May Day is a fun day, so do not hinder it with things that are not useful, such as breaking the rules or disturbing people. It should be a fun day, as they celebrate their day on May Day and draw the attention of the people," he stated.

He further urged the public to avoid the National Monument (Monas) area on May 1, as it will be the focal point of the demonstration.

"I urge people not having businesses around Monas to use another route, as the laborers will hold a demonstration there," he emphasized.

According to rules, the May Day demonstration will end on May 1 at 6 p.m. local time.
