"I would firstly like to thank all the media crew and I would like to bid you farewell. I will be headed to the facility from the dormitory I was staying in," he said in the State Detention Facility Class I in East Jakarta. After saying his goodbyes, he immediately boarded the prisoner car that will take him to Sukamiskin.
"I am sure that I will learn a lot in the Sukamiskin Facility, and I will have the opportunity to say a lot of prayers, especially for those who bear me ill will," he said.
He reiterated that he believed that he had been unjustly treated in the corruption case known as the KTP-E case.
"I hope the truth will come out. Let me be the only one who has been treated unjustly, and let those who have treated me in such manner be forgiven, as I am sure there will be a fair treatment back from the Almighty, in this life and in the afterlife. I would like to once again apologise and I bid you farewell," he said.
Earlier, neither the Anti-Graft Body nor Novanto submitted an appeal against the verdict of the Panel of Judges of the Corruption Crime Court convicting him in the KTP-e case.
Novanto has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment with an added fine of Rp500 million or three more months in jail. Novanto will also have to pay back US$ 7.3 million, minus the Rp5 billion that he has returned. Reported by Benardy Ferdiansyah
