Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s working population has reached 127.07 million in February 2018, up by 2.53 million compared to the same period of 2017, which has been recorded at 124.54 million, according to the Central Bureau of Statistic (BPS).

"Of the total 127.07 million working population, 87.08 million are full-time employees, 30.29 million are part-time employees, and 9.7 million are under-employed," head of BPS Suhariyanto said here on Monday.

Suhariyanto stated that some 53.09 million people work in the formal sector, and 73.98 million work in the informal sector.

Sectors that have recorded an increased percentage in working population are accommodation and other services, food and beverages industry, and processing industry.

Agriculture, construction, and education services have recorded a decline in the number of workers.

"However, agriculture still has the largest contribution to jobs structure, with 30.46 percent (of the working population); followed by trade, with 18.53 percent; and processing industry, with 14.11 percent," he remarked.

BPS has also recorded the average labor wage to be Rp2.65 million per month in February.

Suhariyanto remarked that the average wage for male workers has been recorded at Rp2.91 million per month, while the average wage for female worker was at Rp2.21 million per month.

"The highest average wage was in the finance and insurance services category, at Rp4.13 million, while the lowest average wage was recorded in other service sector, at Rp1.44 million," he elaborated.

Workers with college degree have recorded a higher average wage, at Rp4.42 million per month, or three times higher than workers with elementary school background, at Rp1.57 million.

Six sectors have lower average wage than the national standard, namely construction sector at Rp2.63 million; processing industry at Rp2.48 million; trade at Rp2.16 million; accommodation, food, and beverages at Rp2.1 million; agriculture at Rp1.76 million; and other services at Rp1.44 million.
