Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla expressed regret over the involvement of children in suicide bombings at three churches and the Surabaya City Police Headquarters in Surabaya, East Java Province, on May 13-14.

"We deeply regret the involvement of children (in the terror attacks). It shows a brainwashing of children that destroys the entire nation. We grieve for the victims of the terror attacks. The perpetrators of terror attacks will receive punishment in the afterlife," he noted at the Global Forum of the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Kalla condemned the terror attacks that led to casualties involving police personnel and civil society.

The vice president also called on all sections of society to remain vigilant and to report anything suspicious to the police.

"We need the public to report any information that can stop or supervise people with a deplorable nature. The Indonesian Police and Military have made efforts to keep the Indonesian country safe, but we should cooperate with each other, as we have a large population of 200 million people," he stated.

"I believe those people, who kill others, will go to hell. God surely gives punishment to all who commit ill deeds," he stated.

The series of suicide bombings on the Christian Church of Indonesia, Immaculate Santa Maria Catholic Church, and Surabaya City Police Headquarters involved children and adolescents as the perpetrators of the terror attacks.

Suicide bomb attacks occurred at three churches in Surabaya on Sunday morning (May 13). The first bomb attack occurred at the Santa Maria Church at 7:30 a.m. local time, Indonesian Christian Church at 7:35 a.m. local time, and Pantekosta Church at 8 a.m. local time.

The death toll in the suicide bomb attacks rose to 18 as of Monday, the police stated.
