Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Mount Merapi has erupted again on Friday morning at 8:20 a.m. local time, according to the Yogyakarta Volcano and Geological Disaster Mitigation Office of Yogyakarta.

The office tweeted on its official Twitter account @BPPTKG that an eruption, with an amplitude of 77 millimeters and lasting for two minutes, had created a six thousand-meter-high smoke column moving towards the northwest direction.

As the volcano`s status remained on alert, people were urged to wear glasses, mask, and jacket while engaging in outdoor activities. Meanwhile, a radius of three kilometers from Mount Merapi`s peak is still off-limits for any kind of activity by civilians.

Earlier on Thursday, the office released data indicating that the level of Mount Merapi`s volcanic activities was relatively still high, with frequent tremors, both of tectonic volcano and multi-phase quakes.
