Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Managing Committee of Kerala Samajam Indonesia (KSI), one of the Indian Regional Associations in Indonesia representing the southernmost state of Kerala in India, has recently handed over donations to a number of orphanages in Jakarta.
"The 200-member association, recognized by the Indian Embassy in Jakarta, has been formed with an intention to create harmonious relations among the community," Benny Matthew, President of the KSI, stated here on Monday.
Since its inception, he noted that the multi-religious members always gather together occasionally to celebrate each of their cultural social service and community service activities in Indonesia.
One of the initiatives of the present KSI Managing Committee was to conduct regular visits by its members to various orphanages in Jakarta and its surrounding areas and to extend possible support to the needy ones.
According to Mathew, the most recent visit was to Panti Asuhan Remaja Harapan at Rawamangun, East Jakarta, where the KSI members donated fund, clothes, and food to the 50 orphan students there.
"We have been working in Indonesia in various sectors, and so we would like to carry out various activities among orphans too," he revealed.
Recently, the KSI has organized similar activities at Pusat Santunan Keluarga Pusaka at Cilincing, North Jakarta; and Yayasan Binayatul Abna at Pondok Kopi, East Jakarta. The students were also invited to perform cultural arts and participate in the Ifthar organized by KSI last month.
Mathew revealed that KSI plans to carry out similar activities at many more orphanages and schools in Indonesia where more KSI members, along with their families and children, would participate in the visits, to enable the children of the new generation to also observe and understand life`s difficult stages as well.
