"A comprehensive and inclusive follow up from the Singapore Summit is important to realize the hope of the international community for a peaceful, stable and prosperous Korean Peninsula and the wider region".Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi in a statement on Tuesday welcomed the historical U.S.-North Korea summit in held Singapore, calling it an opening of new era in relations between U.S. and North Korea.
"Indonesia welcomes the Summit held between the President of the US and Leader of North Korea in Singapore, today 12 June 2018, opening a new era in relations between the two countries," Minister Marsudi tweeted on Tuesday.
Moreover, Marsudi stated that Indonesia hoped the positive results reached during the summit can be immediately followed up to ensure the conditions conducive for a peaceful Korean Peninsula, free from nuclear weapon.
Singapore hosted a historic meeting between the US president and North Korean leader as the world watched on Tuesday, Reuters reported.
Trump and Kim met on the Capella, a refurbished 19th century British regimental officers` mess.
After a handshake against a backdrop of North Korean and U.S. flags, they were soon smiling and holding each other by the arm, before Trump guided Kim to the library where they held a meeting with only their interpreters.
Trump was joined by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, National Security Adviser John Bolton, and John Kelly, White House Chief of Staff, for the expanded talks, while Kim?s team included former military intelligence chief Kim Yong Chol, foreign minister Ri Yong Ho and Ri Su Yong, vice chairman of the ruling Workers? Party.
A "comprehensive" document was signed by U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un following the historic summit aimed at the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula.
Trump and Kim signed an agreement on denuclearisation, pledging to work toward complete denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula while Washington committed to provide security guarantees for its old enemy.
"President Trump committed to provide security guarantees to the DPRK and Chairman Kim Jong Un reaffirmed his firm and unwavering commitment to complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula," said a joint statement issued after their historic summit in Singapore.
Trump said he expected the denuclearisation process to start "very, very quickly". U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and North Korean officials would hold follow-up negotiations "at the earliest possible date", the statement said.
It however did not give any details on how denuclearisation would be achieved. The document also made no mention of the international sanctions that have crippled North Korea`s economy, for pursuing its nuclear weapons programme.

Indonesia believed that a peaceful Korean Peninsula will greatly contribute to a regional and global ecosystem of peace and stability, Marsudi noted.
