Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - The governments of Indonesia and Finland organized the second meeting of the Secretary- General`s High-Level Advisory Board on Mediation in Helsinki on Monday, the United Nations Information Center (UNIC) Jakarta said in a statement.

Initiated by the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, the High-Level Advisory Board on Mediation is aimed to prevent conflicts and strengthen mediation efforts.

"The role of mediation has become increasingly important among the tools available in foreign policy internationally, and it is one of the key priority areas of the Finnish foreign policy. Hosting this meeting is part of our determined contribution to mediation in accordance with the Government`s Report on Finnish Foreign and Security Policy," Finland`s Minister for Foreign Affairs Timo Soini, who will open the meeting, noted in a statement.

Apart from the board members and Finland`s high-ranking officials, the meeting will be attended by the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, as well as Slovakian Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Laj??k.

Composed of 18 global leaders, the High-Level Advisory Board on Mediation is an initiative to support the efforts on conflict prevention by providing advice to the UN Secretary-General.

"As part of his vision for a surge in diplomacy for peace, the Secretary-General established the High-Level Advisory Board on Mediation on Sept 13 last year. The Board is composed of nine women and nine men, current and former global leaders, senior officials, and renowned experts who bring together an unparalleled range of experience, skills, knowledge, and relationships," the UNIC remarked in a statement on Monday.

Following the meeting, the board members will talk on mediation and preventive diplomacy efforts, as well as current challenges in a panel event titled "the state of mediation and conflict prevention today."

Moderated by a board member, Jean-Marie Gu?henno, the talk will be broadcast online in "https://formin.videosync.fi/state-of-mediation-and-conflict-prevention" at 3:00 PM EEST (Central European Summer Time) or 12:00 PM GMT+7.

During the meeting, Indonesia will be represented by the former foreign minister, Marty Natalegawa.

Besides Natalegawa, the Secretary General`s High-Level Advisory Board also consists of former president of Chile Michelle Bachelet, international lawyer and human rights advocate Radhika Coomaraswamy (Sri Lanka), 2011 Nobel Peace Laureate Leymah Gbowee (Liberia), former French diplomat Jean-Marie Gu?henno, former president of Finland Tarja Halonen, humanitarian dialogue activist David Harland (New Zealand), member of the Board of Trustees of the National University of Singapore Noeleen Heyzer, member of the Jordanian Senate Nasser Judeh, former foreign affairs minister of Algeria Ramtane Lamamra, first education minister of Mozambique Gra?a Machel, High-Commissioner of Tanzania to UK Asha-Rose Migiro, and former president of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo.

"The advisory board member also consists of the former president of Kyrgyzstan Roza Otunbayeva, former prime minister of Haiti Mich?le Pierre-Louis, former prime minister of Timor Leste Jos? Manuel Ramos-Horta, former minister of Guatemala Gert Rosenthal, and the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby (United Kingdom).
