"On June 8, at the UN Headquarters in New York, Indonesia was elected as one of the UN Security Council`s non-permanent members," President Joko Widodo stated during a bilateral meeting with the President of Timor Leste Francisco Guterres Lu Olo at the Bogor Palace, Thursday.
Indonesia, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said, is committed to bolstering cooperation with Timor Leste, mainly in terms of developing the infrastructure sector.
"The ties between Indonesia and Timor Leste are aimed at improving the well-being of the two countries in the future," Jokowi remarked.
On a similar occasion, the president of Indonesia also lauded the government of Timor Leste over its success in organizing the parliament general election in June.
President Guterres Lu Olo was welcomed by President Jokowi at the Bogor Palace at 10:00 am local time on Thursday. After joining the welcoming ceremony and a photo session, the two leaders headed to the palace backyard to plant a tree.
During the bilateral meeting, President Jokowi was assisted by Coordinating Economic Minister Darmin Nasution; Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto; State Secretary Pratikno; Public Works and Public Housings Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung.
Following the bilateral meeting with Timor Leste`s president, Jokowi is scheduled to welcome the newly-elected Malaysian Prime Minister Mahatir Mohammad at the Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport, Thursday evening.
