Medan, N Sumatra (ANTARA News) - Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita has reiterated his call to counter the European Union`s negative campaign against palm oil-based products.

The move to counter the EU negative campaign would be made through approaches and communication, he said following a national dialogue at the Medan International Convention Centre on Thursday.

Through the approaches and communication, the EU had postponed its entry ban on oil palm-based products from Indonesia until 2030, he said.

He said Indonesia could not accept the negative campaign against its palm oil-based products.

As a sovereign state which always respected rules, Indonesia wanted the same treatment from the international community, he said.

If Indonesia was accused of "deforestation", it demanded a common agreement on the term as well as its relation to other vegetable oils, he said.

But if the EU showed injustice, he said he would do the same in the capacity as minister.

Citing an example, he said he held a dialog with officials of the Norwegian Embassy who admitted that they would reject oil palm-based products from Indonesia at the request of their country`s parliament.

"I immediately invited the ambassador. I told him that we would stop buying his country`s products. They said they did so at the request of their parliament. I told them that we were also required by our parliament," he said.
