Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Minister of Communications and Informatics (Kominfo) Rudiantara said that the ministry was preparing ways to prevent the spread of negative content by syndicates, ahead of the presidential and legislative elections in 2019.

"Cooperation with fellow government institutions, especially with the police, has been improved, and it is certain. It means that we would be more aware," Rudiantara told ANTARA here on Tuesday.

He noted that the cyberspace reference was clear, and legal action would be taken as long as there is a violation of the Act. The action is not by his ministry, but the police. So, the cooperation of the two institutions should be further improved.

The way to handle negative content is to identify the source of the content, including its account, the minister explained.

Furthermore, the minister called on social media platforms to close such accounts. If the platform does not heed to the ministry`s request, the platform can be blocked, similar to the last case on the Tik Tok short video platform.

"The management of the platform, in this case, is often made as the target of the blame. Therefore, it is not only the user of the social media but also the platform that must be responsible," Rudiantara noted.

He claimed to have discussed the ways to prevent the spread of negative content and to avoid any omission from the platform, which will be rewarded with a penalty.

The last and most important thing is to provide digital literacy to the public, so that they would be able to distinguish fake news and find out the truth from other sources.
