Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, after meeting with her US counterpart Michael Pompeo here on Saturday, said that there was no trade war between the two countries.

"Do not be trapped by the statement about the trade war between the US and Indonesia," she noted.

"What happened is a trade war between the US and China, and it will certainly affect the trade relations in other countries and globally," she stated.

Regarding the visit of Indonesia`s trade minister to Washington DC in July, she explained that he had met with his US counterpart and representatives from the business community and the private sector.

The two ministers agreed to strengthen trade and investment cooperation during the meeting.

"We have been informed about the positive visit of the Indonesian trade minister to the US at the end of July. We wish to build a strong and mutually beneficial relationship," she remarked.

At the meeting with Pompeo, she explained that she had also discussed preparations for the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2019.

"Next year, the two countries will commemorate the 79th anniversary of diplomatic relations. The theme that Indonesia has proposed for the event is `Celebrate Our Diversity and Prosper Together as Strategic Partner`," she remarked.

Indonesia and the US have built strategic partnership in 2015 and "with it, we would develop relations that are mutually respectful, beneficial, and useful for the two countries, the region, and the world," she pointed out.
