Mataram, W Nusa Tenggara, (ANTARA News) - At least 31 people were killed after a powerful magnitude-7 earthquake rocked Lombok and Sumbawa Islands in West Nusa Tenggara province on Sunday night, according to the local disaster mitigation agency (BPBD).

The dead victims consisted of 28 in North Lombok district and three in West Lombok district, chief of the agency`s emergency and logistics section, Agung Pramudja said.

"This is provisional data we received at 00.10 a.m. local time," he said.

The quake rattled Lombok and Sumbawa Islands at 06.46 p.m. local time on Sunday.

The epicenter of the quake was located at 8.3 degrees southern latitude and 116.48 degrees eastern longitude at a depth of 15 kilometers.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) issued a tsunami early warning shortly after the quake and lifted it at 08.25 p.m. local time.
