Palembang, S Sumatra (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Police expressed readiness for securing the 2018 Asian Games, due to be held in Jakarta and Palembang, South Sumatra, from August 18 to September 2.

"We ensure security during the Asian Games. Around 7,400 personnel will be deployed in Palembang to safeguard this multi-sport event," National Police Deputy Chief Comr. Gen. Syafruddin said here on Sunday.

The Police have prepared maximum security to maintain conducive situation during the Asian Games.

"Around 10,000 joint personnel will be deployed during the event. All participants will get maximum security," he remarked.

In terms of security, all Asian Games contingents were treated equally starting from their arrivals to their returns to their respective countries.

The joint-security personnel have made various preparations, including a security simulation of athletes.

Meanwhile, regarding the Asian Games facilities in Palembang, Coordinating Minister for Human and Cultural Development Puan Maharani has said earlier that they have been 99 percent ready for use.

"Things that previously needed evaluation have been fixed. God willing, the Jakabaring sport center in Palembang is ready to host the Asian Games," Puan said here on Saturday when inspecting the facilities for Asia`s largest sport event to take place from Aug 18 to Sept 2 in Palembang and Jakarta.

The light rail transit (LRT) linking the Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II airport and Jakabaring has been operational, she said adding that it needs only optimization.

Puan, accompanied by South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin, inspected the facilities for beach volley, canoeing, rowing and dining room of the athletes.

"Hopefully the area and the completed facilities will result in successful implementation of the games," she said.

She said the athletes have no complaints about the facilities and food.
