"Party cadres selected to become spokesmen are prepared to fill in public space with positive narratives for developing the public space, " Hasto Kristiyanto, secretary general of the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), said here, Monday, on the sidelines of a training for the spokesmen.
The 108 spokesmen are cadres of nine political parties belonging to the Working Indonesian Coalition (KIK).
The nine parties are PDIP, the Muslim-based United Development Party (PPP), Golkar Party, National Awakening Party (PKB), National Democratic Party (Nasdem), People`s Conscience Party (Hanura),the Indonesian Justice and Unity Party (PKPI), the United Indonesia Party (Perindo), and the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI).
The spokesmen are told to be offensive and expose achievements of the Joko Widodo administration during his first term (2014-2019).
"Offensive means socialization of what the government has achieved," he noted.
Meanwhile, Pramono Anung, senior politician of PDIP concurrently cabinet secretary, said some 100 spokesmen of the Jokowi-Amin pair will work in accordance with their respectively tasks.
Most of the spokesmen are volunteers, he added.
Ma`ruf Amin, prominent cleric who currently chairs the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), is the best choice to partner with Joko Widodo in the next presidential election, because Indonesia is a Muslim majority country, he remarked.
"His background as professor in syariah economics is certainly useful. At present, our syariah economic volume is large, but yet to give significant impact on the national economic. So, we hope it can be met," he said.
Additionally, incumbent President Joko Widodo, commonly known as Jokowi, is expected to have a national campaign team with 10 directorates for the 2019 presidential election.
The team`s 10 directorates comprise directorates on programs, finance, collecting and networking, law and advocacy, information and communication, logistics, election witnesses, campaign contents, attracting young voters, and volunteers.
Each directorate will have operational teams. The team will be bigger, as every political party supporting Jokowi will have 25 spokesmen, Nasdem Secretary General Johny G. Plate said on Aug 7, 2018.
