Jakarta, (ANTARA News) - The North Korean contingent succeeded in securing gold and silver medals in the women`s 63-kilogram (kg) weightlifting event at the Asian Games 2018 held at the Kemaryoran JI Expo venue here on Friday.

North Korean lifter Kim Hyo Sim clinched the gold medal, with a total lift of 250 kg after recording 113 kg in the snatch and 137 kg in the clean and jerk categories.

Choe Hyo Sim, another North Korean lifter, won a silver medal by lifting a total of 238 kilograms comprising 105 kg in the snatch category and 133 kg in clean and jerk.

The bronze medal was won by Thai Rattanawan Wamalun, with a total lift of 225 kg comprising 102 kg snatch and 123 kg of clean and jerk.

In the women`s 63-kg weightlifting event, Indian lifter Rakhi Halder could not continue the match after failing in three snatch attempts to lift 93 kg, although she recorded a total lift of 225 kg or finished third after the two North Korean lifters.

The success of the Korean women lifters added five medals to their country`s gold medal tally in the weightlifting branch.
