Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian badminton player Jonatan Christie will take on Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in the men`s singles finals at the Asian Games 2018 for a gold medal on Tuesday (Aug 28).

The world`s 15th seeded Indonesian badminton player stepped into the finals after outplaying Kenta Nishimoto of Japan 21-15, 12-21, 21-19.

Chen, who is the world`s sixth seeded player, qualified for the finals after beating Anthony Ginting of Indonesia 16-21, 23-21, 21-17 in 1 hour 22 minutes.

With Ginting`s defeat, the men`s singles event failed to see All Indonesia finals.

"I did not think that I would move on to the finals," Christie remarked after the match against Nishimoto on Monday.

Ginting, who failed to follow Christie?s suit, noted that he would pray for Christie?s best performance in the finals.

"May Christie play well. The result of the game will depend on how he will play tomorrow. As the Indonesian community, we will surely support him to clinch a gold medal," he stated.
