"I am ready whenever there is a need to fight. In such a situation, I can still recover. I am ready," Kali noted after defeating East Timorese boxer Jose Barreto Quintas Da Silva at the JIEXPO Kemayoran, Jakarta, on Monday.
In the fight against Silva this Monday afternoon, Kali`s right temple bore an about three-centimeter tear after colliding with his opponent`s head.
"Because of my temple injury, the East Timor boxer was aggressive in the third round, and he then continued to attack," Kali remarked.
Kali, who is also an active TNI soldier, can still recover in his free time a day before the quarterfinals. During the break, he will hone his technique and improve his physical and mental condition before challenging the Chinese boxer.
Zhonglin, Kali`s opponent in the quarterfinals, is quite heavy. Zhonglin is China`s mainstay and gold medal holder of the Chinese Boxing National Championship.
Kali is optimistic of continuing to swing to the final round. The opponent he anticipated was Uzbekistan`s Hasanboy Dusmatov.
Kali is one of the Indonesian boxers, championed by the Indonesian Amateur Boxing Association (Pertina), to win a gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games.
A total of 10 gold medals in 10 numbers are up for grabs at the 2018 Asian Games boxing sports competition, for which Indonesia has sent all its athletes.
