The closing ceremony which took place at the Bung Karno main stadium in Senayan, Jakarta on Sunday evening was also attended by, among others, chairman of the INASCOG, Erick Thohir, chairman of the Indonesian contingent Syafruddin, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Minister of Youth and Sports Affairs Imam Nahrawi, and Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan.
At the 18th Asian Games the Chinese contingent emerged as overall champion by grabbing 132 gold, 92 silver and 65 bronze medals, followed by Japan with 75 gold, 56 silver, and 74 bronze medals.
South Korea is at the 3rd position with 49 gold, 58 silver, and 70 bronze medal.
Meanwhile, Indonesia successfully reached the 4th place with 31 gold, 24 silver, and 43 bronze medals.
A total of 37 out of 45 countries gained medals during the 18th Asian Games which was co-hosted by the cities of Jakarta and Palembang in South Sumatra Province.

A total of 40 sports were featured at the Asian largest multi-sport event involving around 15 thousand athletes and officials from 45 countries, which is higher than in the previous 17th Asian Games held in Incheon, South Korea, in which there were only 36 sports involving 13 thousand athletes and officials.
The 19th Asian Games is expected to be held in Hangzou, China, in 2022.
