The 2+2 talks follow up on agreements reached under the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan.
Foreign Ministry Americas and Europe Director General Grata Endah Werdaningtyas said preparations were completed during a final coordination meeting with Turkiye's Asia-Pacific Director General Korkut Gungen.
The meeting, also attended by Indonesia’s ambassador to Turkiye, Achmad Rizal Purnama, focused on finalizing the program, agenda, and technical arrangements, Endah said in Ankara on Thursday.
She said discussions were smooth and constructive, reflecting strong commitment from both sides to ensure the landmark meeting delivers tangible benefits for bilateral relations.
The talks underscore Indonesia and Turkiye’s shared intent to deepen their strategic partnership, particularly in priority sectors and defense cooperation, Endah added.
Earlier, Indonesian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang said the 2+2 agenda would center on strategic cooperation in security, trade, the economy, development, and energy.
Speaking to reporters in Jakarta on Thursday, Yvonne said the ministers would also discuss defense industry collaboration and regional issues spanning Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific.
The meeting will further address multilateral coordination, broader international cooperation, and developments related to Palestine, she said.
Indonesia maintains a 2+2 mechanism at the foreign and defense minister level only with Turkiye, Australia, Japan, China, and France, Yvonne added.
Following the Ankara talks, Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono is scheduled to meet President Erdogan in Istanbul on Saturday, she said.
During the meeting, Sugiono will formally invite Erdogan to attend the D-8 summit, which Indonesia will host as the group’s chair in April.
ANTARA noted that bilateral ties are strong, including in defense industry cooperation.
In 2025, state-owned shipbuilder PT PAL Indonesia signed a contract with Turkish defense firm Roketsan Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. to strengthen the Indonesian Navy’s R-41 warship weapons system.
PT PAL CEO Kaharuddin Djenod said the cooperation covers weapons systems for the Merah Putih-class frigate under a fitted-for-but-not-with (FFBNW) scheme and the refurbishment of the R-41 warship.
He said the deal reinforces PT PAL’s role as Indonesia’s lead naval defense integrator for platforms and combat systems.
