Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Ministry of Industry and National Research Council for Economic, Humanitarian and Social Sciences (NRC) of South Korea have agreed to collaborate for the implementation of the industrial revolution 4.0.

"This partnership is a sign that Indonesia and Korea have close diplomatic relations and are keen to continue in order to jointly boost economic growth," Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto remarked in Seoul on Monday.

Hartarto said the synergy is the fruit of a bilateral meeting between leaders of the two countries.

The agreement between the two parties was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) by Hartarto and NRC Chairman Kyoung Ryung Seong in the presence of Indonesian President Joko Widodo and South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

Hartarto explained that the MoU on the 4.0 industrial cooperation activities was aimed at conducting joint research activities and exchange for education, forming network between experts and professionals in each country, and opening cooperation project opportunities.

"We will build a systematic and mutually beneficial cooperation framework to support the implementation of industry 4.0," the minister remarked, adding that the MoU is valid for five years after it is signed.

Hartarto also stressed that the Indonesian government had launched a roadmap of Making Indonesia 4.0 as a national agenda and preparedness strategy to enter the fourth generation industrial revolution era.

According to Hartarto, one of the priority programs is to build an innovation ecosystem.

"Innovation can be developed from research activities and utilization of technology. With innovation, the competitiveness of the national industry will increase in the global arena," he explained.

Hence, the Ministry of Industry continues to encourage the development of industrial innovation centers in the country, optimization of regulations and facilities for fiscal incentives, as well as establishment of collaborations with various parties.
