Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education Mohamad Nasir said here on Monday that with the commencement of the construction of the Joint Lecture Building of Malang State University (UM), it was hoped that it would be able to spearhead the Learning Innovation Center for students throughout Indonesia.
"We must modernize the education system in Indonesia, so that education equity can be achieved," Nasir said after attending the Groundbreaking Project 4 in 1 at the State University of Malang.
Nasir added, with the Learning Innovation Center, it was expected to be able to present the modernization of the education system online, which would later be able to reach various regions in Indonesia, including border areas.
One of the concepts proposed by Nasir is, among others, using online learning schemes. Thus, the regions that have not had a tertiary institution can still get education with the schemes.
"If you have `online learning` there will be no more restrictions. Learning on campus is no longer in the classroom. Maybe, it can be outside the classroom, wherever and whenever possible," Nasir said.
The State University of Malang is currently building two Joint College Buildings that get funding from the Islamic Development Bank (ISDB). The total funds distributed in the Project 4 in 1 reached US $ 48.2 million.
In the 4 in 1 Consortium, the State University of Malang assumed the task of becoming the Center of Excelence in the field of Learning Innovation. In addition to UM, three other universities included in the project are the University of Jember, Mulawarman University and Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University.
"With the Learning Innovation Center, children in the border and disadvantaged areas can study well. Of course, if we have a good Learning Innovation Center," said Nasir. .
