"This is a form of respect for victim and their families. This is also a form of national condolence and is a form of introspection. One life is very expensive compared to football," Imam Nahrawi emphasized at his office here on Tuesday.
A Jakmania member (Persija`s supporter), identified as Haringga Sirla, 23, was killed in the courtyard of the Bandung Lautan Api sports stadium in the West Java provincial capital of Bandung on Sunday (Sept 23), as a result of being mobbed by suspected members of the League 1 participant, Persib Bandung supporters.
In addition to the form of respect, the two weeks are expected to be able to be utilized by both PSSI and PT Liga as operators of the competition to make extraordinary efforts, especially in enforcing existing regulations.
"Enforce the regulation. Don`t just impose sanction about funds. So we wish to see what the federation will do regarding this case within two weeks," he said.
After two weeks, the minister said he would evaluate the football federation given that the case was not only a tragedy of sports, but had entered a human tragedy.
"It (evaluation) starts today. After that we together with related parties ... will take the next step," the minister.
In the meantime, on Monday (Sept 24), the Indonesian Under-16 soccer team expressed condolences over the demise of a Persija supporter after being allegedly beaten insistently by those supporting the Persib Bandung team.
The Indonesian U-16 team conveyed its condolences through a video recording uploaded on the official Instagram social media page of the team coach Fakhri Husaini, @coachfakhri on Monday.
"We, a big family of the Under-16 national team, mourned the death of Persija`s supporter during the Persib-Persija match on Sunday (Sept 23, 2018)," said U-16 soccer team`s captain David Maulana, who was accompanied by all his teammate players, coaches, and staff of the U-16 Indonesia national team, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Monday.
After extending their condolences, all in the video exposed the palms of their hands to the camera and exclaimed simultaneously, "Stop violence in football!"
According to chief of the Bandung police precinct, the incident occurred at around 1 p.m. local time or before the start of the match between Persib and Persija.
The police have arrested at least six suspected and another one as a key witness.
After the deadly incident, the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) has urged all parties to exercise refrain.
The match between Persija Jakarta and Persib Bandung ended with the score of 2-3.
