"By saying bismillah, we declared support to the pair of presidential and vice presidential candidates number 01," she stated at a press conference.
She expressed belief that Jokowi can lead Indonesia for two terms.
She noted that a leader must be able to think modestly that the people`s basic needs must be fulfilled.
"When Gus Dur led, he met the basic needs of the people regardless of their religion, race, group, or social status," she stated.
A leader must realize social justice by providing the people`s basic supplies, she added.
Yenny Wahid, as she is popularly called, stated that the declaration represented the political stance of the Gus Dur family and her mother Sinta Nuriyah Wahid will play a bridging role as the nation`s maternal figure.
"A mother has a bigger task than the election that is `tweaking` both two camps," she pointed out.
Nine members of the consortium of Gus Dur cadres joining the declaration are grouped in Barikade Gus Dur, Forum Kiai Kampung Nusantara, Garis Politik Al Mawardi, Gerakan Kebangkitan Nusantara, Satuan Mahasiswa Nusantara, Milleniak Political Movement, Komunitas Santri Pojokan, Jaringan Perempuan untuk NKRI, and Forum Profesional Peduli Bangsa.
During the presidential election scheduled on April 17, 2019, the Jokowi-Ma`ruf Amin pair will be challenged by Prabowo Subianto, a former army general, and young businessman Sandiaga Uno as his running mate.
Prabowo, as he is popularly called, and Uno had earlier visited Sinta Nuriyah Wahid in their efforts to get her endorsement.
