Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Director General of Plantation Bambang said he is optimistic that the target of replanting 185,000 hectares of smallholders` oil palm plantations in 2018 would come to reality as scheduled.

Smallholders have 617,000 hectares of oil palm plantations and most of them need replanting, Bambang said here on Monday.

The government provides an assistance of Rp25 million for replanting of a hectare of their oil palm plantations.

"This year we hope to finish replanting 185,000 hectares of farmers` plantations. Farmer shave to make use of the opportunity," Bambang said.

Palm oil is the country`s largest foreign exchange earner outside oil and gas.

The country is the world`s largest producer of palm oil.
