Raja Ampat has been chosen to host the workshop because it is located in the Coral Triangle area and is one of the best examples for marine conservation efforts.
The meeting`s participants will seek the best practices in marine conservation management that could also help boost the economy of local people.
"We hope in the future Indonesia in general and Raja Ampat District in particular could become a model for marine conservation regions," he said.
The MPAWG is one of the five Technical Working Groups supporting the CTI-CFF.
The accomplishments of the MPAWG is the development of the Region-wide Coral Triangle MPA System (CTMPAS) which is targeted to be in place and fully functional by 2020 and developed a roadmap to achieve the targets of Goal 3 of the RPOA.
To date, six Regional Exchanges (REX) and six TWG meetings were conducted which provided an opportunity for the six coral triangle (CT6) countries to prepare the regional MPA workplan as well as the corresponding national plans.
The MPA REX also provided a venue for the CT6 to share their accomplishments on MPA management and also to learn from the experience and best practices being implemented by the other countries.
