Bandung, W Java (ANTARA News) - The West Java International Airport (BIJB) in Kertajati sub-district would start to serve umroh (minor hajj) flight in October 2018, West Java Governor M Ridwan Kamil said.

"Insya Allah (God willing), the first umroh flight will be served on October 13. Every year West Java dispatches a large number of umroh (minor hajj). This shows a sound economy," Ridwan Kamil or Emil as he popularly known said in a statement here on Tuesday.

The umroh flight will be served by Boeing 737 Max 8 direct to Madinah city.

Emil said, the airport has continued its coordination with airlines and travel agents to ease the plan.

The airport, also known as Kertajati airport, has extended its runway from 2500 meters to 3,000 meters, the governor remarked.

In addition, he said, the authority has planned to move airlines operation from Husein Sastranegara airport in Bandung to Kertajati airport.

Therefore, it would need to develop further infrastructure around the airport and improve its accessibility, as Kertajati airport would become a new economic center in the eastern part of West Java, Emil added.
