This was revealed in a written statement from the office of the Indonesian Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, which was received in Jakarta on Wednesday.
"The development of the potential of the creative economy sector has proven to play an important role in global efforts to realize sustainable development goals," Deputy of Marketing of the Indonesian Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) Joshua Simanjuntak stated.
The statement was made at a working luncheon initiated by the Government of Indonesia in its capacity as chair of MIKTA by raising the topic "Unleashing the Potential of Creative Economy to Achieve SDGs" at the UN Headquarters in New York, the United States, on October 1, 2018.
"Taking into account the positive impact of the development of the creative economy, which includes economic and social and cultural aspects, it is time for the international community to improve cooperation to utilize the creative economic potential more optimally through concrete programs," Indonesian Permanent Representative to the UN in New York Ambassador Dian Triansyah Djani stated.
The meeting`s topic was closely related to the theme of Indonesia`s chairmanship in MIKTA in 2018: "Fostering Creative Economy and Contributing to Global Peace."
The meeting was also a form of MIKTA`s real contribution in the joint efforts to find alternative solutions to overcome the challenges of sustainable development, especially in the framework of the 2030 Agenda.
The meeting was attended by some 150 invitees, including ambassadors of friendly countries, high-ranking UN officials, and creative economic actors from various countries.
In addition to speakers from Indonesia and agencies related to the creative economy at the UN, such as the UNESCO, UNCTAD, and UNDP, the meeting was enlivened by creative economic actors from Australia and South Korea.
The activity was also used by UN member countries to share experiences about best practices in efforts to promote creative economy.
In addition, UN agencies conveyed various initiatives and programs carried out to advance the creative economy in order to achieve sustainable development. The question and answer session covered discussion on strengthening the role of the UN in helping member countries and promoting international cooperation in the field of creative economy.
MIKTA is an informal cooperation partnership consisting of Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey, and Australia and was formed in 2013 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
