Secretary General of OECD Angel Gurria said the survey underlined the importance of policy strengthening resilience against growing global risks.
Indonesia`s economy is growing healthier and demographic bonus would accelerate the growth next year, Gurria said when launching OECD Economic Survey Indonesia 2018 at the Sofitel Hotel Nusa Dua, Bali,on the sideline of the Annual Meeting of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group here on Wednesday .
The growth was boosted by confidence level in the Indonesian government. Gurria said confidence level in the government of Indonesia is higher than in all OECD countries.
The result of the survey could serve as a basis of cooperation ahead in the context of OECD-Indonesia Joint Work Program, he said.
OECD launched two reports on Indonesia -- OECD-Indonesia Joint Work Programme (2019-2021) and Economic Survey of Indonesia 2018.
Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said one noteworthy in the result of the survey about the Indonesian economy is the positive growth amid the pressure of global economic contraction.
Survey on Indonesia`s economy has been held periodically every two years by OECD since 2008. The survey in 2018 marked the 10th anniversary of collaboration between the government of Indonesia and the OECD in this program.
The OECD survey focused on the current development and challenges faced by countries to continue to move forward.
The survey predicted that Indonesia`s economy would grow 5.2 percent this year and 5.3 percent in 2019 .
What is more important for Indonesia is to create a condition that could guarantee the next generation a better life, Gurria said, adding therefore, problem related to infrastructure, education , health and working quality have to be removed to ensure sustainable and inclusive growth .
The survey was carried out by accommodating two important factors - increasing public income for friendly growth and making tourism to promote the continuity of regional development.
Sri Mulyani was apparently encouraged by the result of the survey.
"I am very pleased that OECD`s general view of Indonesia`s economy is very positive and inspiring," she said.
The survey gave recommendation to the government to increase income, increase the role of young people in development, and to strengthen the tourism sector, she said.
In responding to the recommendations the government has set target for tax revenues 16.4 percent higher in 2019, she said.
A number of programs have been launched to improve the capacity of the younger generation such as through education of young children, certification of school teachers and high operational fund of schools.
In tourism sector the President has shown special interest and largest fund has been allocated for tourism development including promotion, she said.
The partnership with OECD is an opportunity to share experience in two ways in inclusive and sustainable development, she added.
There are many lessons Indonesia could learn from the experience of developed countries of the OECD in development, she said.
