Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan departed for Japan to attend the G7 Trade Ministers' Meeting (G7 TMM) to discuss increasing resilience of global supply chains and relationship between the trade sector and sustainability aspect.

Hasan affirmed that this was the first time that Indonesia had been invited to the meeting. He noted that the invitation will accommodate Indonesia's strategic interest and other developing countries in global trade.

"The G7 TMM will be strategic for Indonesia to bring its interests into global trade, especially to increase the resilience of global supply chains and the relationship between the trade sector and sustainability aspects, including environmental issues, development, and digitalization," Hasan noted in a statement on Saturday.

During the G7 TMM, he is scheduled to take part in an outreach session, namely a discussion session between G7 member countries, strategic partner countries, and international organizations.

The session will raise the theme of increasing global supply chain resilience as well as a working dinner session that focuses on the relationship between the trade sector and sustainability aspects.

On the sidelines of the G7 TMM meeting, Hasan was also scheduled to take part in bilateral meetings with Indonesia's several strategic trading partner countries, namely Japan and Australia. The entire series of meetings takes place at the Osaka International Convention Center, also known as Grand Cube Osaka in Japan on Saturday.

He will also attend meetings with the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the International Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

"Indonesia is encouraging concrete results at the 13th WTO Ministerial Conference in February 2024 and hopes for support for Indonesia's accession to become a full member of the OECD that can be an accelerator for achieving the vision of a Golden Indonesia 2045," the minister affirmed.

The G7 is an international organization comprising countries with the largest economies, namely Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
