DiploFest, the first event organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and aimed at reiterating its presence among the people, was held in Yogyakarta on Thursday (Oct 25).
Organized for two days, the event kicked off with public lecturers at three campuses: the Yogyakarta Muhammadiyah University (UMY), Indonesian Islamic University (UII), and the National Development University (UPN) Veteran.
Director General from Asia-Pacific and Africa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Desra Percaya delivered his address themed "Question of Palestine as Sui Generis in International Relations and Indonesia`s Position" to over 300 students of UMY.
The enthusiasm of students was also palpable at the UII, where some 300 of them held a discussion themed "Diplomacy 4.0: International Law Perspective" with Director General of International Law and Agreements Damos Dumoli Agusman.
Meanwhile, Director General of Multilateral Cooperation Febrian Ruddyard shared his experience and the development of "Indonesia Cultural Diplomacy: Multilateral Perspective" in the UPN Veteran.
The series of public lectures were concluded with a talk show featuring Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi at the Gadjah Mada University on Friday.
On the second day of DiploFest on the Grha Sabha Pramana field of Gajah Mada University, a soft skills training on diplomacy was held, including simulations on UN sessions and gaining information on protocol matters in diplomatic events. Visitors can also converse with Indonesian diplomats about their lives as ambassadors in other countries.
DiploFest, held in collaboration with Bank Rakyat Indonesia, was an activity initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to disseminate information on Indonesian diplomacy to the wider community, especially to the millennial generation. DiploFest is the embodiment of President Joko Widodo`s vision of Nawacita for "Grounded Diplomacy."
