"We require a thorough and transparent investigation," Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi said while giving a public lecture in a series of events at the "Diplomacy Festival at the Senate hall of the Gadjah Mada University (UGM) here on Friday afternoon.
She also said that the Indonesian government paid attention to the murder mystery of the senior journalists who are now becoming one of the main topics in international media reports.
Retno further said the unfinished case even more or less overshadowed a bilateral meeting between the Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir and the former (Retno) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office in Jakarta on Tuesday (Oct 23).
On the occasion, Retno expressed her condolences for the death of the senior journalist.
Indonesia will continue to keep abreast of the investigations carried out by the kingdom of Saudi Arabia to uncover the mystery of the murder case to its conclusion.
"Our request is that guilty people should receive equal punishment," the minister unveiled.
Jamal Khashoggi reportedly disappeared on October 2 when he was then not found after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey to take care of marriage documents.
After weeks of denying an involvement in the Khashoggi case, the Saudis on October 19 admitted that Khashoggi had been accidentally killed in a fight at the consulate in Turkey.
In the meantime, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) alluded to the case of the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, during a meeting with Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir at the Bogor Palace on Monday.
"The president also presented the Jamal Khashoggi case by expressing concerns over the case," the minister stated.
Retno also revealed that President Jokowi was optimistic that the investigation by the Saudi government would be conducted transparently.
