"The hospital is damaged and Indonesia strongly condemns the Israeli attack on October 27," President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said here on Sunday.
President Jokowi added that the attack not only caused damage to the hospital but also the surrounding area.
"Indonesia will always support Palestine in fighting for its independence, there is no word of backing down," Jokowi said accompanied by East Java Governor Soekarwo.
Earlier, a volunteer of the Indonesian Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C) reported that several parts of the Indonesian Hospital (RSI) in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, were damaged due to Israeli military attacks.
"Since Friday (Oct 26) night until now, Saturday, October 27, 2018, the Zionist Israeli military is still attacking a number of areas in the Gaza Strip," Reza Aldilla Kurniawan, a MER-C volunteer in the Gaza Strip, said.
Meanwhile, MER-C Operations Manager Rima Manzanaris told Antara that Israel dropped at least five rockets near the location of the Indonesian Hospital in Bayt Lahiya, North Gaza.
The rocket hit shook the surrounding area, and caused damage in several parts of the Indonesian Hospital, including administration offices, toilets, corridors, and intensive care rooms.
Reza, who at the time of the air attack was being inside the Indonesian Guesthouse behind the hospital felt a huge shock due to the rocket strike.
"The shock was so great that much dust fell down from the roof. I immediately get out of the guesthouse and saw the condition of the Indonesian Hospital that was damaged," he said.
The patients were then transferred and placed in safe places in the hospital.
The construction of the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza was initiated by the Indonesian humanitarian aid team which brought medical aid from the government and people of Indonesia to Gaza people in late 2008 to early 2009.
