Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Tokyo organized the International Friendship Day Festival in Toyota, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, on June 7–8, 2025, to support cultural exchange and collaboration between the Indonesian and Japanese communities.

"This activity is not only a celebration of Indonesian culture and heritage, but also a tribute to the spirit of friendship and togetherness that binds the international community in Toyota," Chargé d'Affaires ad interim Maria Renata Hutagalung said on Saturday.

Toyota is a city in Mikawa, Aichi Prefecture, where the Toyota automotive company's headquarters are located.

In a press release issued by KBRI Tokyo, Maria said the partnership between Toyota Motor Corporation and Indonesia goes beyond economic cooperation, encompassing people-to-people relations and cultural exchange.

She then conveyed her appreciation to Toyota Indonesia and the entire Indonesian-Japanese community for collaborating in the festival.

The festival showcased traditional Indonesian dances, such as the Lengger Dance from Banyumas, the Jaipong Dance from West Java, and the Plate Dance from West Sumatra.

According to KBRI Tokyo, the performances of pencak silat, Reog Ponorogo, and dangdut koplo were warmly received by visitors, who also enjoyed Indonesian snacks and cuisine.

In addition to art performances, the embassy also provided immigration, consular, and financial services for Indonesian citizens in Japan at the festival.

The festival was joined by Toyota Deputy Mayor Tsuji Kunie, Aichi Prefectural Assembly Committee chairperson Hiromi Naoe, and Aichi Japan-Indonesia Cultural Cooperation and Exchange Association chair Suzuki Masahiro.

Toyota International Association chairperson Saeki Hanae and Toyota Junior Chambers International chairperson Sakai Tatsunori also attended the event.

International Friendship Day, introduced by the United Nations General Assembly in 2011, is celebrated annually on July 30 to promote peace, solidarity, and mutual understanding between people and nations around the world.
