Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has questioned James Riady, the big boss of the Lippo Group over the scandal involving its property subsidiary Meikarta.

"There are a number of things that need clarification how far the witness knows about the Meikarta project and the project license," KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said here on Tuesday.

KPK summon James Riady as a witness in the graft case involving Meikarta`s big property project in Bekasi built over land wider than it had been licensed for.

KPK has named nine suspects including Bekasi District Head Neneng Hassanah Yasin on charge of bribery.

The eight other suspects are a Lippo Group Director Billy Sindoro, Lippo Group consultants Taryudi and Fitra Djaja Purnama, Lippo Group employee Henry Jasmen (HJ), who allegedly bribed the regent and other district officials including head of the district public works service Jamaludin, head of the district fire extinguishing agency Sahat MBJ Nahor, and head of the district capital investment board Dewi Tisnawati (DT) and an official of the district Public Works service Neneng Rahmi.

Meikarta is accused of committing a total bribery of Rp13 billion Rp13 billion for the district administration officials, and KPK said around Rp7 billion of the commitment had been realized.

The project is feared to be mired in legislation and many buyers of the property have demanded the return of their money.

Lippo, however, sought to convince its buyer that the project would continue despite the legal case. Reporting by Benardy Ferdiansyah (SYS/AS).
