Commemorating the 73rd anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia in Valletta, Malta, according to Information, Social and Cultural Affairs of the Indonesian Embassy in Rome, Aisyah M. Allamanda, to Antara London on Thursday that RI-Malta cooperation could develop further, especially in the fields of economy and trade.
Even though it is located on a different continent, the two countries have the same characteristics as a maritime country with significant economic growth amid a not-so-optimistic global situation.
While Malta Dolores Cristina expressed Malta`s condolences for the crash of the Lion Air JT610 aircraft. On the other hand, he conveyed the admiration of Malta for the determination of Indonesian unity amid the diverse socio-cultural differences of its people.
The Government of Malta hopes the partnership between the two countries will be tightened, especially in the maritime field.
When he arrived at the location of the event, the president was welcomed by the Pasambahan Dance from West Sumatra, which was brought by the Kadispora District West Sumatra Pasaman Art Team Ricky Suwandi.
The excitement of Minang`s unique dance and songs accompanied by live music resulting from a combination of talempong, saluang and gendang with international musical instruments, made invited guests consisting of diplomatic corps and Indonesian Embassy partners work at the end of the event.
Mark Vella, one of the businessmen in Malta who was present at the reception, said he was not too familiar with Indonesia before. Even so, West Sumatra`s cultural arts show at the event was very memorable and wanted to travel to Indonesia, especially the Pasaman region.
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Indonesia and Malta have been established since 1979 and continue to develop well. As a maritime country that has the largest connecting port in the Mediterranean region, Malta has significant potential to become Indonesia`s cooperation partner in maritime affairs.
At present, there are 72 Indonesian citizens living in Malta, in addition to the Indonesian Ship Fruit Crew (ABK) who work for Maltese ships. (ZG) * (E002/A)
