Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA News) - Riau province was favored with a big surplus of US$11.06 billion in foreign trade in the first nine months of the year, the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) said.

"The surplus included US$9.14 billion in the trade of commodities other than oil and gas and US$1.92 billion in oil and gas trade," head of the Riau BPS Aden Gultom said here on Friday.

Riau is big producer of crude oil and gas in the country.

Aden, however, said Riau`s exports in September dropped 7.1 percent in value to US$1.37 billion from the previous month. Exports of commodities outside oil and gas fell 1.35 percent to US$1.17 billion from August.

Riau contributed 9.25 percent to the country`s total exports in value, Aden said.

The province`s exports in the first nine months of the year were valued at US$12.24 billion or 4.35 percent larger than its exports in the same period in 2017 with exports of commodities other than oil and gas up 0.92 percent to US$10.12 billion.

The largest exports of Riau were for China accounting for US$1.76 billion or 17.41 percent, followed by India to which exports valued at US$1.49 billion (14.72 percent) and the Netherlands to which exports valued at US$807.97 million.

Riau`s imports in September 2018 were valued at US$103.26 million down 28.16 percent from its imports in August. Its imports of commodities other than oil and gas fell 26.95 percent to US$82.62 million from August this year.

Riau contributed only 0.71 percent to the country`s total imports in value.
