Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Floods hit Jatinega, Kramatjati and Makasar Sub-districts in East Jakarta Municipality and Pasar Minggu Sub-district in South Jakarta, on Sunday evening as Ciliwung River spilled over its bank following incessant rain.

"This is an update of information on floods in East Jakarta and South Jakarta, on Nov 12, as of 6 a.m. local time, due to the overflow of Ciliwung River," the Jakarta disaster mitigation office, said in a statement here, Monday.

The floods began on Monday at around 4.30 p.m. local time, and ended on Monday at 6 a.m., it added.

In East Jakarta, floodwaters affected Kampung Melayu in Jatinegara sub-district, at a height of up to 50 centimeters, and Cipinang Muara also in Jatinegara, at a height of up to 80 centimeters.

Flooding also submerged Cawang area in Kramatjati sub-district and Cipinang Melayu in Makasar Sub-distrct, reaching a height of up to 50 centimeters, but it subsided on early Monday.

In South Jakarta, flooding hit East Pejatem in Pasar Minggu Sub-district but subsided at 4 a.m. local time.

As rainy season began, several regions in Sumatra, Java and Kalimantan Islands were flooded.
