Banda Aceh, Aceh (ANTARA News) - The Aceh Oil and Gas Management Body (BPMA) said a Spanish company PT Repsol will explore for oil and gas in the Andaman sea, Aceh.

"PT Repsol will start drilling in the Andaman III sea in Pidie, Pidie Jaya in the Bireuen district in August 2019," head of the External Relations of BPMA, Radhi Darmansyah said here on Sunday.

Radhi said the the drilling plan by Andaman Talisman BV or PT Repsol in the sea off the district of Pidie, had been discussed with the regional administration and local traditional institution.

"The Aceh provincial administration and BPMA and other related parties have held coordination to ensure that the drilling process in the Rencong 1X well would go well," he said.

He said the drilling in the Rencong 1X well needs high technology as the sea in the location is deep around 1,500 meters.

"Talisman Andaman BV and BPMA already informed of the progress in the acquisition process and interpretation of Seismic 3D Andaman III to acting Aceh Governor Nova Iriansyah on Friday," Radhi said.

He said the Seismic ship of MV. Elsa Regent is used in the drilling in the Rencong IX well , adding the total area acquired is 3.385 square kilometers.

BPMA is a government agency formed to be in charge of managing and controlling upstream oil and gas business onshore and offshore in Aceh.
