Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Xiao Qian has stated that in the past five years, bilateral relations between Indonesia and China has been experiencing significant progress, indicated by the frequent working visits of the leaders and high-level officials of both countries.

"In the past five years, the bilateral relations between Indonesia and China have been strengthened by visits by state officials.

"The number of visits is the most since the relationship was established," Qian stated, while giving an opening speech at a seminar on the Indonesia-China Five Years Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, here on Tuesday.

Qian noted that during this period, President Xi Jinping had visited Indonesia twice, while President Joko Widodo had visited China five times.

"Their strong leaderships have become the basis for the continuation of the bilateral partnership between the two countries," he remarked.

Five years ago, Indonesian and Chinese leaders agreed to upgrade the two countries` comprehensive partnership into a strategic comprehensive relationship.

According to Qian, this partnership not only demonstrates the current status of relations of the two countries but also reflects the direction of cooperation between Indonesia and China in the future.

The ambassador explained the meaning of the Strategic Comprehensive Cooperation. "Bilateral cooperation in the political, security, trade, and investment sector, as well as public relations continue to progress," he explained.

The ambassador added that all cooperation which has been agreed earlier continued to show progress, while partnerships in new areas have also also established.

The membership of Indonesia and China in the G20 and APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) indicate the power and influence of the two countries at regional and global levels, the ambassador revealed.

Coordination and cooperation between the two countries in the multilateral platforms have played an important role in promoting regional cooperation and maintaining world security, and these make the bilateral collaboration have a strategic aspect.

"The relationship between our two countries is beyond bilateral, East Asian, and even Asian levels. This cooperation is also globally significant, "he noted.

As large developing countries, Indonesia and China face the same challenges, so that in their cooperation, the two countries are determined to build mutual cooperation through consensus, cooperation, and joint actions.

"Indonesia and China have become partners who work together to develop together," Qian stated.

The Indonesia-China Five Years Comprehensive Strategic Partnership seminar discussed the progress of cooperation in various fields after strategic comprehensive partnership was implemented for five years.

In addition to Qian, Indonesian Maritime Coordinating Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan was also present at the opening ceremony.
