Bandung, W Java (ANTARA News) - West Java Provincial Secretary Iwa Karniwa has stated that the provincial administration, through PT West Java International Airport (BIJB), has offered investment opportunities at the Aerocity BIJB area in Kertajati, Majalengka District, to foreign investors and business people.

"Yesterday, we received the management team of PT Surbana Jurong and Enterprise Singapore, an international consulting company affiliated with Singaporean State-owned enterprise, Temasek. They came to explore the potential cooperation, especially in smart cities, with West Java, including Kertajati Aerocity Airport," Karniwa noted here on Tuesday.

According to Karniwa, in addition to discussing the partnership between Singapore and West Java, PT Surbana Jurong also received an offer from the provincial administration regarding investment in the Aerocity area of Kertajati Airport, Majalengka.

"Surbana Jurong and Enterprise is interested in working on the LRT (Light Rapid Transit) Bandung Raya, Jatigede drinking water supply system, and Kertajati Aerocity," Karniwa remarked.

He added that the company, which also worked on the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Walini master plan for the Jakarta-Bandung Fast Train project, was exploring a number of investment opportunities and new cooperation with the West Java administration.

"There will be further discussion for Kertajati Aerocity Airport project. This is an exploration because there are opportunities there," he remarked, adding that PT Surbana Jurong also claimed that the company would be able to attract investors and financial partners from Singapore to enter the commercial area of the Kertajati Airport.

Karniwa hoped that the aerospace area in Kertajati Airport would be filled with international tenants.

"This is only an exploratory stage, and so it needs further meetings," he added.

West Java International Airport (BIJB), or the so-called Kertajati Airport, is located in Kertajati Sub district, Majalengka District, about 68 kilometers from Bandung City, the capital of West Java Province.

Kertajati Airport is built on an area of 1,800 hectares. It was inaugurated on May 2018 by President Joko Widodo and officially operated in June 2018.

Currently, Kertajati Airport has one runway of 2,500-meters long. This runway will be extended to a length of 3,500 meters to enable landing of wide-body aircraft such as Airbus A380-800. At the ultimate phase, the airport will have two runways.

Kertajati Airport can accommodate 5.6 million passengers per year and is expected to be able to serve 18 million passengers in the following year.
