"We meet the president to report on the ICMI annual programs, namely the National Working Meeting and the 28th Anniversary," ICMI Chairman Jimly Asshiddiqie remarked after the meeting the head of state at the Merdeka Palace.
ICMI administrators who met Jokowi were Jimly Asshiddiqie and Deputy Chairpersons of the Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals Association Priyo Budi Santoso and Sugiharto.
The ICMI National Working Meeting and the 28th Anniversary will be held at Bandar Lampung University in Lampung Province from Dec 7 to 9, 2018.
Asshiddiqie remarked that Jokowi will try to attend the event in Lampung to declare the formation of ICMI, consisting of 11 countries in Southeast Asia, including Timor Leste.
"We consider this important to spread the spirit of peaceful Islam, Islam rahmatan lil alamin, in Southeast Asia," he explained.
In addition, Asshiddiqie hopes that following the declaration, Southeast Asia will become an increasingly harmonious region in the diversity of religions and cultures, and also to foster awareness on improving the quality of human resources.
The aim of the ICMI is also to encourage economic revival in the region.
In addition, Asshiddiqie stated that ICMI officials also discussed proposals on government policies for the progress of the nation.
