Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA News) - Tangerang City in Banten Province has again been awarded as the City of Human Rights Care after it won the Human Rights Care City Award from the central government in 2017.

Law and Human Rights Minister Yasona Laoly presented the award to Tangerang City Government Expert Staff for Law, Politics, and Government Asep Suparman at the Commemoration of Human Rights Day held at the Indonesian Ministry of Justice and Human Rights Office in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Suparman remarked here on Wednesday that the election of Tangerang as a City of Human Rights Care was inseparable from the city government`s development program that focused on the basic rights of people, ranging from rights to health, education rights, women`s and children`s rights, population rights, employment rights, the right to adequate housing, and sustainable environmental rights.

"We are considered to have succeeded in fulfilling the basic rights of the people, starting from education and health," Suparman explained.

Furthermore, he noted that the municipal government of Tangerang had subsidized the cost of education in both public and private schools apart from focusing on the health sector through the Universal Health Coverage program.

"Our health services are also easy, besides, of course, we are highly concerned about the people`s needs for decent housing for the community. Until now, some 5,872 housing units have been zeroed in by the municipal government," he added.

The Tangerang city government also pays attention to the growth and development of children whose are the future generation of the nation, through the development of various thematic parks that become playgrounds for children and the community.

"The City Government has also tried to fulfill the rights of the people to get decent jobs. We have conducted job fairs in each sub-district, not to mention the Job Seekers application that displays job information in real time," he explained.

Suparman also expressed hope that this award would continue to motivate the Tangerang city government to continue to improve public services for the community.
