Nusa Dua, Bali (ANTARA) - Indonesian Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly has urged the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) to intensively give legal opinions to the International Law Commission (ILC) regarding the ongoing crisis in Palestine.

"The ILC has the authority to determine that Israel has committed a series of violations to international law," he remarked during the closing of the 61st AALCO Annual Session in Bali on Friday.

Laoly, who holds the presidency of the session, noted that the Indonesian government also called on the United Nations special rapporteurs to provide ILC with legal opinions regarding the issue.

He said that the legal opinions could serve as a response of the international community to the armed conflict between Hamas and Israel that have resulted in deaths of thousands of people.

The annual session highlighted various topics, including the issue of international law violations in connection with the raging conflict in Palestine.

On Wednesday, the third day of the event, Palestinian Minister of Justice Mohammad Al Shalaldeh alluded to the bombardment of the Baptist Hospital in Gaza Strip on Tuesday.

He emphasized the importance of legal and judicial mechanisms for prosecuting and punishing perpetrators of the attack that he labeled as a grave war crime.

Al Shalaldeh said that by mounting the attack, Israel aims to commit a genocide against Palestinians.

Hence, he made the most of the AALCO annual session to outline several important points, including the need for the organization to formulate resolutions related to serious violations to the international law committed by Israel.

AALCO also needs to form a legal committee that is expected to have the capacity to bring Israel's international law violations to an international court, Al Shalaldeh said.
