Surabaya, E Java (ANTARA News) - The Police have rerouted traffic following road subsidence on Gubeng Highway in the East Java provincial capital of Surabaya on Tuesday night.

"Traffic to Gubeng Highway near Siloam Hospital has been rerouted to alternative roads," Adjunct Senior Commissioner Eva Guna Pandia, chief of the traffic police unit at the Surabaya city police, stated on Wednesday.

Road subsidence, measuring 25 meters in length and 8 meters in depth, occurred on Gubeng Highway near Siloam Hospital or the BNI branch office on Tuesday night.

Since the Gubeng Highway was closed, traffic from Karimun Jawa Street to the highway was rerouted to the northern side of the highway, while traffic from Kertajaya Street and Sulawesi Street to the highway was rerouted to Ngagel Street and Pandegiling Street.

Traffic from Pandegiling Street to Gubeng Highway was also rerouted to Ngagel Street.

The road subsidence also forced the police to close Sumbawa Street near the site of the road subsidence.

The police called on all motorists to exercise caution while riding on the road, she stated.

"Police officers will be on standby round the clock. Motorists, with no specific plans or agenda in the area, should avoid the scene," she added.
